Arthur W.J.G. Ord-Hume

hume

Arthur W J G Ord-Hume saw his first light aircraft as a child more than seventy-five years ago, an experience which was to influence the rest of his life. It was the prelude to a fulfilling career as an aircraft design engineer, general aviation pilot and aircraft company director. In the years following the end of the 1939-45 War he flew many types of light aeroplane and was also closely associated with the early use of aircraft for crop-dusting and spraying in Britain, designing equipment that was to become the industry standard. As a student of low-speed aerodynamics he made significant contributions to the progress of private light and ultra-light aircraft design and construction becoming a founder of the Popular Flying Association. In retirement he established himself as a writer and historian and has produced almost fifty books. Sometime University lecturer on aeronautics, he is a frequent radio and TV broadcaster and remains sought-after as peripatetic speaker on aviation history and his other subject – musical instrument technology.
